After two months of conception, four months of donation drive, and two months of construction, the USHS Class of 2003 officially turned over the state-of-the-art Science Laboratory to the University Science High School last August 29 in a ceremony with CLSU President Dr. Evaristo A. Abella as guest of honor and speaker.

Dubbed as Labor of Lab: Science Laboratory for USHS Donation Project, the undertaking was USHS Class of 2003’s labor of love to the very institution that has helped shape their minds and future. Recognizing the necessity for a fully functional Science Laboratory in USHS, the donation drive sought to make a difference in the lives of USHS students and create a brighter future for the next generation of scientists and leaders of our nation.

Through the project, we were able to furnish the laboratory with three (3) Chemistry tables, three (3) Physics tables, and two (2) demonstration/instructor’s tables with adjustable mirrors. All these feature laboratory-grade solid phenolic resin countertops with provisions for electricity and sink (for Chemistry tables). The tables also come with 50 stools in laminated marine seats with rubber footing.

Moreover, storage issues should be a thing of the past. The laboratory is now equipped with a total of 10 steel cabinets: six (6) 1.8m cabinets with adjustable shelves and four (4) 0.9m cabinets.

The tiles in the building were also replaced with slip-resistant tiles to ensure safety within the laboratory premises. Meanwhile, through the steadfast support of the Central Luzon State University Office of the President, we were also able to procure and install two (2) air conditioning units, four (4) wall fans, window blinds, a refrigerator, and two (2) fire extinguishers to further improve ventilation and ensure safety within the building.

The project is a testament to the power of collaboration — that great things happen when we work together towards a shared vision. After all, education brings and unites communities together. It is an enduring symbol of both academic pursuit and the power of collective action by the school administration, alumni, and the wider community.

The donation was not by USHS Class of 2003 alone. It was also made possible by the following corporate sponsors: Le Felize Victoria, DWELL Dermatology, Dr. Yasmin Frias Leodones Dental Clinic, Queen Mary's Medical Clinic, San Jose Nuat Thai, Coffee Street Manila, Dominique's by Le Felize Victoria, Novellino, Erlinda's by Crystal Waves, VQ Trading, Saint Joseph Medical Clinic, Lardizabal Eye - San Jose City, Nueva Ecija, and First Rogwell Construction Trading.

The cause was also supported by the Central Luzon State University Office of the President, CLSU Research and Extension, CLSU General Administration and Support Services, CLSU Academic Affairs, CLSU Physical Plant and Site Development Services, CLSU Financial Management Services, CLSU OVPRE Strike Force, CLSU Strategic Communication Office, CLSU Property and Supply Office, CLSU University Canteen, CLSU Small Ruminant Center, University Science High School, USHS Parent-Teacher Association, and RN 7Teen CS.

USHS alumni spanning five decades from the pioneer batch up to the most recent graduates, faculty, students, private individuals, and donors who chose to be anonymous also contributed to the project.

On behalf of the batch who made the difference, the USHS Class of 2003, thank you for believing in our vision and thank you for making a difference with us!

UNBOXING THE VISSER LAB-IN-A-BOX

VISSER Lab-In-A-Box is now in Central Luzon, thanks to Labor of Lab: Science Laboratory for USHS Donation Project.

After the successful USHS Science Laboratory Turnover Ceremony in the morning of August 29, the VISSER Kit Training was held in the afternoon. It was attended by seven Science teachers from both the University Science High School and the Agricultural Science and Technology School, as well as 17 selected USHS students from Grades 8 to 12.

The first technology of its kind in Central Luzon, VISSER or Versatile Instrumentation System for Science Education and Research aims to put modern science laboratories in every school and college by offering low-cost modern digital tools of learning to help equip laboratories and serve as a catalyst in inquiry-based and curiosity-driven learning in science.

The donation drive was able to secure two units of VISSER Comprehensive Kit for Junior and Senior High School, which will allow students to conduct 67 experiments in biology, chemistry, physics, and earth science. These experiments will now be incorporated in the existing science courses of USHS.

VISSER is a technology funded and supported by the University of the Philippines and DOST Philippines.

With the brimming enthusiasm and positive energy we felt from the participants, especially the students, during the training, it makes this cause all worth it. This is all for you, our dear USHS students! We can’t wait for the many ideas, discoveries, and breakthroughs that will be born out of this laboratory.

Once again, from the USHS Class of 2003, thank you to all those who made this happen and thank you for making a difference with us!
